Industries that are Utilizing Robotics

Manufacturing

The significant rise in industrial robotics can be most easily illustrated by looking at the manufacturing industry. Due to the advantages that robots can bring in terms of productivity, quality and consistency, many manufacturers have installed and invested in the technology to boost their business. According to global robotics industry statistics, the number of industrial robots alone installed across industries worldwide between 2017 and 2020 exceeded a total of 3.05 million, adding up to 1.7 million new robots in the process.

Healthcare

The technological advances in robotics have led to a wide use of different types of robots in the healthcare industry – they have been incorporated in practices including surgery, therapy and rehabilitation. According to a report from Omdia, the global healthcare industry ordered 38,400 robotics between 2016 and 2021.

One of the most impressive uses of robotics in healthcare is instanced in the da Vinci Surgical System, created by the American company Intuitive Surgical as a means of aiding the duties conducted by healthcare professionals. This system translates the hand movements of the operating surgeon to control tiny, precise instruments inside the patient’s body. GlobalData expects that the number of surgeries performed using robotic surgical systems will grow at rate of 10.5% per year in the US from 2020 to 2030, with neurosurgery the fastest-growing segment, expanding at an annual rate of 10.1% from 2020 to 2030.

Agriculture

The agricultural sector, despite being labour-intensive, has been enthusiastically working on ways to incorporate the latest robotic technology. Over the past few years, farmers have been using tractors and harvesters with the latest GPS technology to improve quality and efficiency. In addition, they have trialing the use of autonomous mobile robots to aid in tasks such as thinning, pruning, seeding and spraying. According to statista, the global agricultural robotics market could rise to $20.6 billion in 2025.

Conclusion

According to GlobalData forecasts, the robotics market was worth $45bn in 2020, and by 2030, it will have grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29% to $568bn. In a recent report GlobalData researchers concluded that every segment of the robotics market will grow over the next decade, with industrial robots functioning as a growth driver, and innovation in the segment spilling over into other areas. These stats show that we will continue to witness robots transforming business so maybe it is time to utilize the industry and increase the use of robots to transform your business. But it’s perhaps this aspect of the robotic revolution, the unknown consequences, which represents the most challenging and exciting potential.
